The visiting Vibrant Gujarat delegation generated huge excitement among the business community in Chicago during the roadshow and series of one-to-one meetings organised on September 8th & 9th, 2016, Bureaucracy Today has learnt.
The Vibrant Gujarat international delegation comprising of both Government officials and key business leaders met with a large number of CEOs of top companies in Chicago. The international delegation visit to USA is aimed at further strengthening the brand India / brand Vibrant Gujarat to further explore and facilitate USA companies to invest and do business in Gujarat.
Mr. Ausaf Sayeed, Counsel General of India, Chicago welcomed the Vibrant Gujarat delegation and hosted an interactive luncheon. The visiting delegation also met Mr. David Sturza, Manager, Global Economic Development at BorgWarner Inc. and top officials of the company.
A massive roadshow was organized by US-India Business Council (USIBC) & Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) at the Baker McKenzie office, second-largest international law firm in the world which saw participation of more than 75 top Government officials and business leaders.
During the roadshow, Mr. Ausaf Sayeed, Counsel General of India, Chicago spoke about the significant presence of Indian companies in USA and the remarkable Indo-US trade relationship that is existing and growing over the years. He mentioned that, India has outpaced the growth of China and has emerged as the fastest growing economy in the world and the international institutes like IMF, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and many others are expecting the market growth in India to continue. He further stated that, Gujarat is the most progressive and trend setting State in the country and is years ahead on their approach in attracting global fraternity / investors into the State.
Shri. Bharat Lal addressed the gathering and mentioning that India's credible growth story under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi has started yielding results in terms of high interest and large investment by foreign investors. He made a presentation on competitive advantage of Gujarat vis-a-vis other states in India and detailed how Gujarat became number one state in many areas including ‘ease of doing business’ in terms of - registration of the company, State policies and industry friendly eco-system. He shared that more than 200 infrastructure projects have been identified by the State Government where there are investment opportunities for the companies. The State is also keenly focusing on sectors like - Agro & Food Processing, Chemical & Petrochemicals, IT & ITeS, Healthcare, Renewable Energy and many others. He further elaborated that the very culture of entrepreneurship that exist in Gujarat and the ethos of Government, promotes business and industry as this creates opportunities for the people of not only Gujarat but whole India. Due to these characteristics, Gujarat has become preferred destination of business.
The CEO of the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) Mr. Ajay Kumar Pandey spoke about the GIFT City being the first of its kind in India and designed to be at par with globally benchmarked international financial centers. He further highlighted that GIFT is India’s first model smart city with world-class infrastructure, offering ease of doing business and numerous tax benefits to the companies who operate in the GIFT City.
Invest India CEO Mr. Deepak Bagla spoke about the role India is playing in the modern world and tremendous opportunities that are existing in varied sectors in India. He spoke about the change which is taking place in India under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi. Bagla highlighted about “Make in India” and other flagship initiatives such as - Digital India, Skill India, Startup India, Jan Dhan Yojana and others.
Reliance Industries President Communications & Corporate Affairs Mr. Hemant Desai spoke about the supportive policy framework that exists in Gujarat and how projects get completed at a faster pace. He mentioned that, Gujarat Government is really helping and supporting the company’s business operations in the State, especially the telecom and retail business operations.
Abbott Healthcare VP, Nutritional Supply Chain Mr. John Ginascol mentioned that the company has presence in India for over 100 years and in the last five years, the company has expanded its operations from pharmaceutical to nutrition business. He mentioned that, the company has set up operations in Gujarat in October 2011 and the entire facility was built in the period of just two years. It is perhaps the company’s fastest built facility and this was possible only because of the significant support that Government of Gujarat has extended. The company is now exporting their products from the Gujarat Plant to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The session ended with the key remarks from Mr. Mukesh Aghi, President of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) who citied an example of Ford Motors, which also built their facility in record time in Gujarat. He further stated that, it was possible only because of the commitment and support extended by Government of Gujarat.
The Vibrant Gujarat delegation had series of one-to-one focused meetings with CEO’s / top management of high profile companies in Chicago such as - Tmax Soft, IDEX Corp., BorgWarner Inc, Zimmer Biomet, First Trust Portfolios, Waste Management, Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME Group), Abbott, Amritha Therapeutics and 8MinuteEnergy among other companies.
During the one-to-one meetings with the top officials of the companies, Shri. Bharat Lal guided the company’s top executive on the approach for setting up operations in India and the remarkable opportunities that are available in the State of Gujarat.
The delegation also met with the top officials of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group (CME Group), the world's leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace. Phupinder Gill, Chief Executive Officer - CME Group has shown huge interest in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). Shri. Bharat Lal spoke about the advantages that GIFT city is offering to multinational companies and the world-class infrastructure that is available.
The meetings were followed by the presentation and reception-cum-dinner hosted by Suzlon. The interactive session witnessed the participation of Mr. Ausaf Sayeed, Counsel General of India, Chicago and Vibrant Gujarat delegation. Mr. Balrajsinh A. Parmar, Managing Director and Soren Christensen, Senior Sales Manager - Suzlon spoke about the global presence of the company and the mega projects handled in different countries.
During the roadshow and one-to-one meetings, Shri. Bharat Lal extended invitation to the CEOs and the top business leaders to Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit; taking place from January 10th – 13th 2017.
He emphasized that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit will be an opportunity for the companies to meet the Heads of State Governments, Ministers, senior policy makers, heads of international institutions and executives from the corporate world from around the world. He also suggested the companies to showcase their product and service offerings by participating in the exhibition. From here, the delegation moves to Houston to promote Gujarat and attract investment to further accelerate the economic growth of the State.
