Ahmedabad Airport to attract more exporters
Gujarat State Export Corporation Limited (GSECL) is reported to have received the permission of transhipment from the customs authority. This permission, as informed, will enable the traders to utilize Ahmedabad Air Cargo Complex for the import and export of goods and complete the requisite formalities for obtaining customs clearance from any other airport. Traffic at Ahmedabad air cargo complex has increased to 16,980 MT in 2008-09 from 14,338 MT in 2007-08, while during the fiscal year 2009-10, till February end, Ahmedabad air cargo complex handled 16,565 MT. This permission would help increasing the exports from pharmaceuticals, engineering and textile sectors from Gujarat. According to GSECL officials, the permission would facilitate the exporters from Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh etc. to use the facilities of Ahmedabad air cargo complex.
Lanxess India putting up a rubber chem. plant in Jhagadia
Lanxess India, a part of German major Lanxess Deutschland has set up its largest rubber chemicals production facilities in Jhagadia near Bharuch. Spread over an area of 13 hectares, the company is reported to have invested Rs. 3110 million (Euro 50 million), and will provide employment to 250 persons. The company also has plans to set up ion exchange resin plant and export around 80% of its output, as learnt from the sources.
Gujarat Government plans providing 100 services thro’ e-governance
It has been reported that Gujarat Government, as a part of National e-governance Project, has chalked out plans to provide 100 different services through e-governance, some of them being online application for ration cards, payment of taxes, telemedicine, e-ticketing of GSRTC buses etc., Out of these 100 services, it is planned to make available 50 services by the end of 2010. The initiative is expected to provide tremendous opportunities to IT companies, sources informed.
Gujarat Chief Minister inaugurates International Exhibition and Convention Centre at Surat
A five day exhibition “Udyog 2010” organised by The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, at Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre, at Sarsana, was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi. More than 350 companies from various sectors viz. banking, insurance, finance, information technology, embroidery, ancillary products, textiles, engineering, electronics and instrumentation, alongwith some renowned companies from China, Korea and USA manufacturing textile and embroidery machineries, participated in the exhibition. This is the first of its kind facility set up by a chamber of commerce in the state. The exhibition hall is fully air conditioned with a state of the art column free 1,14,000 sq. feet area. The facilities developed include seminar halls, VIP lounge, conference room, business centre, coffee shop, etc.
OPal anticipating additional investment at Dahej SEZ
As informed, the largest petrochemical plant of ONGC Petro Additions Limited (Opal), a joint venture company promoted by ONGC, GAIL India and GSPC, is expected to attract additional investment of Rs. 20 billion at the Dahej SEZ. As learnt, the proposed investment would be in the form of downstream units for which the company is reported to have been in discussions with around 12 companies who will be using OPals’s products as their raw materials, This investment would further create fresh employment opportunities for 4000 persons. The OPal unit is spread over an area of 500 hectares and scheduled to be completed by December, 2012, the sources added.
Gujarat’s first Expressway between Ahmedabad – Bhavnagar
With a view to providing connectivity to industrial areas and ports, the State Government has decided to construct 21 roads involving a cost of Rs. 7090 million following the extensive industrial activities in the State. For the purpose, priority would be given to port connectivity viz. connecting Bharuch with Dahej, Morbi bypass with Navlakhi etc. The state also plans to join the industrial areas with nearby cities. It has also been decided to connect Ahmedabad with Bhavnagar via Dholera on the lines of Ahmedabad – Vadodara Expressway, the sources said.
Banking facilities to all State villages by March, 2011
As learnt, at the instance of the report of the Committee formed by Reserve Bank of India, all the State Level Bankers’ Committees (SLBCs) were advised to study the ways and means to extend banking facility to the rural masses. Gujarat State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) completed the task before the scheduled deadline of March 31, 2010. 3,538 villages have been identified where banking facilities are not available currently. It is informed that the Lead banks including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Dena Bank and regional rural banks (RRBs) would cover 90% of such identified villages during 2010-11, and the residents of these villages would get banking facilities as may be decided viz. full-fledged branch, satellite office, appointment of business correspondents or mobile banking (once a week). The facility would help the villagers to get various payments viz. payment of National Rural Employment Guarantee Assurance (NREGA) wages, old age pension, widow pension, insurance claims at their door step, etc., the sources added. This would also help the poor masses from the crutches of private money lenders who are charging hefty interest.
