He is also known for the works during his tenure as a Public Works Department Minister in the state of Maharashtra when he constructed a series of roads, highways and flyovers across the state including the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Nitin Gadkari served as the Minister of Public Works Department(PWD) of the Government of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 and restructured it from top to bottom. He has served as the president of the Maharashtra BJP.

Gadkari strongly supported privatisation while he campaigned for investments in infrastructure from private firms. He addressed several meetings between private investors, contractors, builders and various trade organisations and diverted large amounts of budgeted projects towards privatisation. He managed to convince the state to allocate Rs. 7 billion for rural connectivity. In the next 4 years, 98% of the total population of Maharashtra achieved an all-weather road connectivity. The project aimed to connect 13,736 remote villages which remained unconnected since independence by road.[citation needed]. It also helped to solve the malnutrition problems prevailing in remote Melghat-Dharni area of Amravati district which previously had no access to medical aid, ration or educational facilities.

Raghuram has been a faculty at IIM Ahmedabad since 1985. He was Dean (Faculty), IIMA from September 2013 to December 2015. He is a member of the Global Future Council on Mobility of the World Economic Forum. Mr. Francisco Marmolejo Mr. Francisco Marmolejo

Mr. Francisco Marmolejo is the World Bank’s Lead of its Global Solutions Group on Tertiary Education, and since July 2016 he also serves as the Lead Education Specialist for India, based in Delhi. In his capacity as the World Bank’s most senior official in tertiary education, he serves as the institutional focal point on the topic of tertiary education (also known as higher education in several countries), and provides advice and support to country-level related projects that the Bank has in more than 60 countries. As part of his activities, he coordinates the Bank’s internal thematic group on tertiary education, which helps to facilitate exchange of ideas among the more than 100 staff members and consultants involved in related initiatives across the globe. In India he provides technical expertise on a variety of educational projects ranging from early childhood to tertiary education.

Previously, he served as founding Executive Director of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration, a network of more than 160 tertiary education institutions primarily from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, based at the University of Arizona (UA), where he also worked as Assistant Vice President. At UA, he was Affiliated Researcher at the Center for the Study of Higher Education, and Affiliate Faculty at the Center for Latin American Studies. Previously, he was an

American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow at the University of Massachusetts, and also he has been Vice President for Administration and Academic Vice President at the University of the Americas in Mexico.

He has worked as International Consultant at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France, and has been part of OECD and World Bank peer review higher education teams in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Dr. Sudhirkumar Barai is a Professor of Structural Engineering Specialization in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur 721 302, India. His research interests are Computational Intelligence Applications, Structural Health Monitoring and Concrete Technology.

In 1995, he obtained Ph.D (Eng.) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He received the degrees of B.E.(Civil) and M.E.(Civil) with specialization in Structural Engineering in 1987 and 1989, respectively, from the Faculty of Engineering, M S University of Baroda, Baroda, India.

Recently he was Erskine Visiting Fellow at University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand during May-June 2008. He was also visiting scientist at National University of Singapore during May-July 2003. He was recipient of BOYSCAST fellowship and visited Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA during May-November, 2000. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Department of Solid Mechanics, Materials and Structures, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel during February, 1997-July, 1998.

He has published more than 130 papers in leading National/International Journals and Conferences in his research fields.

Mr. ‎Manish Sabharwal is Chairman of Teamlease. Prior to co-founding the company, he co-founded India Life, a human resource outsourcing company in 1996 that was acquired by Hewitt associates in 2002. Consequently, he was chief executive officer of Hewitt Outsourcing (Asia) based in Singapore.

He has a management degree from Wharton and sees himself as a crusader for labour reforms in India. Since its inception in 2002, TeamLease has placed more than half a million people in temporary and permanent jobs.

Manish also serves on various state and central government committees on education, employment and employability and is a columnist for Indian Express. He is an alumnus of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Shriram College Delhi and Mayo ‎College, Ajmer.

Dr. Sudhir Jain Dr. Sudhir Jain Director, IIT, Gandhinagar

Dr. Sudhir Jain is an active academic and a passionate academic administrator. He has been on the faculty of IIT Kanpur (IITK) since 1984 from where he is currently on leave to the new Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) in Ahmedabad to shoulder the responsibilities of its Director.

His work has had tremendous impact on earthquake engineering practice and education in India. He was instrumental in development of several important seismic codes in India, and has trained a huge number of professional engineers and college teachers in earthquake engineering through his highly successful continuing education programmes. He set up the National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) at IITK and developed the National Programme on Earthquake Engineering Education (NPEEE), supported by the Government of India. Dr. Jain has been consultant for major projects, such as bridges, petrochemical pipelines and concrete dams and has published more than 150 scholarly papers. His research interests include study of damaging earthquakes, reinforced concrete buildings, bridges, and seismic codes.

As the Founder Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Prof. Jain has experimented with numerous ideas in curriculum, student affairs, faculty recruitment and faculty management. The Institute under his leadership has successfully created a number of initiatives to inculcate and promote excellence by the faculty and students. With his innovative approach and energetic leadership, the new Institute has emerged as an extremely vibrant place for teaching, learning and research.

Dr. Jain holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Roorkee, and Masters and Doctoral degrees from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering in 2000, and is currently its President. He also served on the Board of Directors of the World Seismic Safety Initiative from 2002 to 2009. He was elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2003, and was conferred Life Membership by the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) in 2013.

After completing his M.Tech in Physical Metallurgy, Professor Mohanty did his doctoral work in Material Engineering from University Karlsruhe, Germany and the course in General management from CEDEP, France. Prof. Pankaj Jalote is the Director of IIIT-Delhi (Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi). Earlier, he has been a Chair Professor at IIT Delhi. Earlier he was a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, where he was also the Head of the CSE Department from 1998 to 2002. From 85-89, he was an Assistant Professor at University of Maryland at college Park. From 1996 to 1998, he was Vice President at Infosys Technologies Ltd., a large Bangalore-based software house, and from 2003 to 2004, was a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, USA.

He has a B.Tech. from IIT Kanpur, MS from Pennsylvania State University, and Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. He is the author of four books including the highly acclaimed CMM in Practice, which has been translated in Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc., and the bestselling text book An Integrated Approach to Software Engineering. His main area of interest is Software Engineering. He has served on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Intl. Journal on Empirical Software Engineering, and IEEE Trans. on Services Computing.

Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan is Director and Professor of Strategic Management at the Indian Institute of Management Indore, India.

From 1996 to 2013, Professor Krishnan was a member of the faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), India.

Professor Krishnan was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Advanced Study of India, University of Pennsylvania (Fall 2008), and at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (2011-12). He held the Jamuna Raghavan Chair in Entrepreneurship at IIMB from 2007-10.

Professor Krishnan’s main areas of interest are strategy and innovation. He was listed among the Thinkers50 India most influential thinkers in management from India (2013) and jointly received the special Thinkers50 India Innovation award (2013). Earlier, he received the Dewang Mehta Award for Best Teacher in Strategic Management in 2010.

Professor Krishnan’s recent book, 8 Steps to Innovation: Going from Jugaad to Excellence (co-authored with Vinay Dabholkar, and published by Harper Collins in March 2013), outlines a systematic path for organizations to build innovation capabilities. Dr. Shashank Chaturvedi is the third Director of IPR. Prior to taking charge as the Director of IPR, Dr. Chaturvedi was heading the CAD (V), BARC Facilities at Visakhapatnam. Having completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering (1st rank) in 1985 from IIT Delhi, he obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University in the year 1989-90 in the area of Plasma Science & Technology Programme conducted jointly by PPPL and Princeton University.

He joined IPR in November 1989 and was involved in R&D activities which included Tokamak modelling, modelling for pulsed power systems, shock waves, pulsed electromagnetics, radiation hydrodynamics, plasma stealth, EMP simulators, development of HPC facilities etc. In July 2006, he was transferred to BARC and further, to the Visakhapatnam unit of BARC in 2009, where he was instrumental in setting up the Facility for Electromagnetic Systems.

Some of the projects he handled at BARC were ; Modelling of shock waves, modelling & experiments on high-velocity impact & penetration, theoretical generation of materials data (equation of state, radiation opacity, electrical resistivity) under extreme conditions of density, temperature and strain rate, modelling of high power microwave sources, Software development for Speech, Image & Video analytics, Development of High performance computing facilities.

Some of the awards/honors that were conferred on Dr. Chaturvedi are: Institute Silver Medal at IIT Delhi (1985), Homi Bhabha Science & Technology Award of DAE (2005), Group Achievement award of DAE and Elected as Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in 2013.

A PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr. Renu Swarup completed her Post-Doctoral at The John Innes Centre, Norwich UK, under Commonwealth Scholarship and returned to India to take up the assignment of a Science Manager in the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 1989. She has been responsible for project development, granting and management in the area of Bioresource Development, Energy Biosciences, Bioprospecting, Plant Biotechnology, Tissue Culture and allied areas. She currently is the Adviser-in-Charge of the National Bioresource Development Board.

Dr. Renu Swarup also holds charge of Managing Director, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a Public Sector Company incorporated by the Government of India to nurture and promote innovation research in the Biotech Enterprise with special focus on Start-ups and SMEs. She was responsible for getting the new organization created and getting it operational. BIRAC successfully runs a large number of funding schemes for Industry Innovation, ranging from the Ignition Grant to Proof of Concept funding, validation and product development. The main focus of the organization is on enabling and supporting the Biotech Innovation Ecosystem.

Dr. Renu Swarup has also been closely involved in Programmes and activities related to Women and Science. She was responsible for getting implemented the DBT Scheme on Biotechnology Career Advancement for Women Scientists - BioCARe. She was also a member of the Task Force on Women in Science constituted by the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister.

Prof. Yogesh Singh Prof. Yogesh Singh Ex. Vice Chancellor, MS University, Vadodara

Prof. Yogesh Singh has been the Vice-Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda from July 2011 to July 2014. He was also reappointed as Vice-Chancellor for the second term of three years. The engagement as Vice Chancellor of one of the leading residential Universities in the country with more than 35000 Students, 1200 Teachers and 1500 non-teaching staff, brought immense satisfaction, respect and honour.

He is a member of the General Council of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) since March, 2012. He is also an independent Director of Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Government of Gujarat Undertakings) since May, 2013 and March, 2015 respectively. Prof. Singh has also worked as Chairman, Central Regional Committee, and All India Council for Technical Education, Bhopal (covering states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Gujarat) from December 2011 to May 2014. Prof. Furqan Qamar Prof. Furqan Qamar Secretary General & Member Secretary, AIU

Prof. Furqan Qamar was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajasthan at Jaipur before assuming charge as the first Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh on 20th January 2010. He relinquished the post of First Vice-Chancellor on 25th June 2014 and joined Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi as its Secretary General. Dr. Qamar also served as Adviser (Education) in Planning Commission, Government of India.

Dr Qamar did his Ph.D. (1989) from the University of Lucknow on "Financial Management in Universities in India" and completed his Masters (1981) from the Canning College of the University of Lucknow in first Division and first Position in the University. He obtained his Bachelor degree (1979) from the Lucknow Christian Degree College of the University of Lucknow in first Division and first position in the college and fourth position in the University. He stood first in High School and Intermediate examinations of UP Board. Born in 1960 in the village Bahariabad of the district Ghazipur (UP), he had his early education in the village primary school and the rest his schooling in government aided schools and higher studies in public institutions at Lucknow.

Beginning his career as a Teaching Assistant in the Lucknow Christian Degree College (1981-1982) and later as Junior/Research Fellow (1982-84) at the University of Lucknow, Dr. Qamar was appointed as Lecturer in Commerce in the Department of Economics of Jamia Millia Islamia in 1984, where he rose to the position of Professor & founder Director of the Centre for Management Studies. Professor Qamar did the Advanced Management Programme (AMP 2005) at the Clare College, Cambridge and held the position of Professor in the Abu Dhabi campus of the Southeaster University and also at Al Bayan University during 1995-98. He has delivered lectures at National College of Science & Technology (now Al Dhoffar University) at Salala in Oman and also at the University of Applied Sciences, Erfurt, Germany.

With keen research interest in public policy in higher education, Professor Qamar has been actively engaged in research and has published in journals of repute on such themes as educational planning and administration, financing of education, cost savings and resource use efficiency in education and quality and excellence in higher education. Prof. Qamar has chaired and been members of a large number of committees constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), University Grants Commission (UGC), and Government of Delhi.

Dr. Brian Stoner Dr. Brian Stoner Distinguished Fellow, RTI International

Dr. Brian Stoner, PhD, an expert in materials and electronic technologies, directs research activities related to biomedical materials and devices, vacuum microelectronics, and energy technologies. He is also leading a project for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to reinvent the toilet, developing a waste treatment system for use in developing nations that converts human waste into burnable fuel, stored energy and disinfected, non-potable water through a new biomass conversion unit.

Dr. Stoner also manages research programs for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Army Research Office, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Homeland Security. He holds 23 US patents related to novel microelectronic materials and systems, and has authored or co-authored two book chapters and more than 150 publications.

He also is an adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University.

Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya Vice - Chancellor, BITS Pilani

Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya graduated from Jadavpur University, Kolkata with a Bachelor’s degree (1981), MS (1985) from University of Cincinnati, USA and PhD from Texas A&M University (1991), USA - all in Mechanical Engineering specializing in thermal sciences. After a post-doctoral research stint at Texas A&M, he joined the faculty of IIT Kharagpur in 1991 where he was Dean (Students’ Affairs) during 2009-2012 and has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering since 2003, Professor (HAG) since 2009. He also held faculty position at University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand during 1998-2000.

He served as the Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University, Kolkata during August 2012–October 2013 and as Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur during 2013-2016. Currently he is the Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani for its four campuses in Pilani, Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad.

Prof Bhattacharyya is a Member of the Research Council of CSIR-CGCRI, the General Council & Executive Board of ISM, Dhanbad and the Civil & Mechanical Engineering Project Advisory Committee (PAC) of SERB, DST.

Dr Bhattacharyya has been on the Editorial Boards of International Journal of Power and Energy Systems and Journal of Nano Energy and Power Research. He is an Associate Editor of the international journal Alternative Energy and was on the Editorial Board of Energy Conversion and Management during 2007-2013. He was a member of the Committee on Fast track scheme for young scientists, DST during 2007 –2012. His research interests include heat transfer enhancement, thermodynamic optimization, energy engineering, natural refrigerant based transcritical heating-cooling systems, and natural circulation loops. A recipient of ASHRAE Best Paper Award, Dr Bhattacharyya has published about 110 research articles in indexed international journals and over 110 articles in international conference proceedings; he is a co-author of the celebrated Heat Transfer text with J P Holman.

He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), National Academy of Science, India (NASI) and WB Academy of Science & Technology.

He is known as an adored teacher among the students of IIT Kharagpur and was the first recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award of Indian National Academy of Engineering in its inaugural year in 2013.

Mr. Myles Elledge is an international development expert with more than 25 years of experience in public policy analysis and strategic planning. He has worked in the US and in 26 developing countries on issues of economic and social development as well as environmental health.

Mr. Elledge has experience leading interdisciplinary studies and strategic program evaluations to improve public sector management and access to basic services, with such clients as the US Agency for International Development, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, and Japanese foreign aid agencies.

Mr. Elledge is also working on innovative technology development initiatives, leading public policy and user adoption applied research for water, sanitation, and household cookstove applications.

He was awarded Young Scientist Award 2007 for Excellence in Scientific Research by National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka and Overseas Prize for the paper published in Institution of Civil Engineers, London, UK, 2007 titled “Lessons learnt from tsunami damage in Sri Lanka”. He has published over 140 papers. He was awarded Australia Alumni Excellence Award 2012.

He has chaired FIVE international conferences on Mitigation of the Risk of Natural Hazards (ICMRNR) of IIIRR in 2007, Sustainable Built Environment (ICSBE) in 2010, Structural Engineering, Construction and Management (ICSECM) in2011, Sustainable Built Environment (ICSBE 2012) in 2012, Structural Engineering and Construction Management (ICSECM2013), which were held in Sri Lanka. He is a foundering member of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) and presently Vice President.

Mr. Karan Jani Mr. Karan Jani Leo Scientist and astrophysicist, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia

Mr. Karan Jani is a doctoral researcher in Astrophysics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with B.S. in Physics, B.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics and a minor in Mathematics.

His current research is focused on searching for black-holes in the universe. He works on both the fronts: theory and observation. As a theorist, he simulate black-holes on supercomputers. As a member of the international LIGO Scientific Collaboration, he analyze observational data to detect massive black-holes. He was part of the team that detected the first black-holes and gravitational-waves on Sept 14, 2015.

Apart from astrophysics, he is actively involved in policy matters. As a Senator Nunn Fellow on National Security at the Georgia Tech's School of International Affairs, he works on the implications of space-science policy of developing nations and applications of big data sciences to intelligence community.

He also currently serve as the Elections Director and Vice-President at the Student Government Association at Georgia Tech. Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Executive Director, TIFAC, Dept. of Sci. & Tech., GoI

Dr. Prabhat Ranjan has taken over as Executive Director of TIFAC, effective from April 25, 2013. Dr Ranjan’s schooling was in Netarhat School, located near Ranchi, followed by graduation at IIT Kharagpur and masters from Delhi University. Subsequently he received his PhD degree from University of California, Berkeley based on his research related to nuclear fusion at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory during 1983-86. He was a recipient of National Science Talent Search award in 1976.

Immediately after his doctorate, he returned to India to participate in the Nuclear Fusion Program of the country that was nascent then. He continued his research at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta and Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar, making a major contribution to this area by bringing tokamaks (experimental nuclear fusion reactors) to international standards of operation. He was project leader of Aditya Tokamak and SST-1 Tokamak Operation and Control Group till 2002.

From 2002 to 2013, he served as Professor at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar. During this period he worked on many real life problems including societal issues. In particular, his work in the development of ‘Environment Control System’ based on body part movement, voice and brainwaves has helped improved quality of life of many persons with disability. He is passionate about application of embedded systems and sensor network technology to the areas of wildlife research, planetary exploration and healthcare.

His work has won him many accolades including HP Innovate 2009 award, NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Award 2012 and Bihar Gaurav Samman 2012.

Mr. Francisco Marmolejo

Mr. Francisco Marmolejo is the World Bank’s Lead of its Global Solutions Group on Tertiary Education, and since July 2016 he also serves as the Lead Education Specialist for India, based in Delhi. In his capacity as the World Bank’s most senior official in tertiary education, he serves as the institutional focal point on the topic of tertiary education (also known as higher education in several countries), and provides advice and support to country-level related projects that the Bank has in more than 60 countries. As part of his activities, he coordinates the Bank’s internal thematic group on tertiary education, which helps to facilitate exchange of ideas among the more than 100 staff members and consultants involved in related initiatives across the globe. In India he provides technical expertise on a variety of educational projects ranging from early childhood to tertiary education.

Previously, he served as founding Executive Director of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration, a network of more than 160 tertiary education institutions primarily from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, based at the University of Arizona (UA), where he also worked as Assistant Vice President. At UA, he was Affiliated Researcher at the Center for the Study of Higher Education, and Affiliate Faculty at the Center for Latin American Studies. Previously, he was an

American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow at the University of Massachusetts, and also he has been Vice President for Administration and Academic Vice President at the University of the Americas in Mexico.

He has worked as International Consultant at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France, and has been part of OECD and World Bank peer review higher education teams in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He serves or has served on advisory boards at a variety of universities and organizations, including the International Association of Universities, the American Council on Education’s Commission on International Initiatives, NAFSA, World Education Services, and the Centre for Internationalisation of Higher Education at UNICATT-Milan.

Dr. Sudhirkumar Barai

Dr. Sudhirkumar Barai is a Professor of Structural Engineering Specialization in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur 721 302, India. His research interests are Computational Intelligence Applications, Structural Health Monitoring and Concrete Technology.

In 1995, he obtained Ph.D (Eng.) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He received the degrees of B.E.(Civil) and M.E.(Civil) with specialization in Structural Engineering in 1987 and 1989, respectively, from the Faculty of Engineering, M S University of Baroda, Baroda, India.

Recently he was Erskine Visiting Fellow at University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand during May-June 2008. He was also visiting scientist at National University of Singapore during May-July 2003. He was recipient of BOYSCAST fellowship and visited Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA during May-November, 2000. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Department of Solid Mechanics, Materials and Structures, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel during February, 1997-July, 1998.

He has published more than 130 papers in leading National/International Journals and Conferences in his research fields.

Dr. V. G. Gaikar

Dr. V. G. Gaikar is the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Maharashtra. His field of specialization and research includes Process Intensification using Microwave, Light and alternative energy sources, Thermochemical conversions of Biomass, Soft Condensed Matter, Reactive Separations and Design by Molecular Modelling, Clean Technology, Innovation Practices.

In 1986, he obtained Ph.D (Tech.) from University of Bombay. He received the degrees of M.Chem (Engg) and B.Chem (Engg) 1984 and 1982, respectively, from University of Bombay.

He has held many positions in over 20 organizations and has published more than 30 journals.

Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa

Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Chemistry from the Technological Institute of Textiles, Bhiwani, Master’s Degree in Fibre Science and Technology and Doctoral Degree on the theses titled “Technical Education System: Accreditation Process and Improvements” from IIT, Delhi.

He served in different capacities in various Textile Industries. He joined Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in 1990 and was working as Deputy Educational Advisor (Technical) before joining National Board of Accreditation as Member Secretary.

Dr. Nassa has dealt with various important development schemes of Technical Education in the Ministry of HRD, AICTE and has contributed significantly in the planning, formulation and implementation of various schemes of Technical Education. He had been associated with the Approval and Accreditation of Technical Institutions/Programmes at Regional as well as National level in AICTE.

He has more than 10 research papers to his credit in reputed National and International Journals and National and International Conferences.

Mr. Manish Sabharwal

Mr. ‎Manish Sabharwal is Chairman of Teamlease. Prior to co-founding the company, he co-founded India Life, a human resource outsourcing company in 1996 that was acquired by Hewitt associates in 2002. Consequently, he was chief executive officer of Hewitt Outsourcing (Asia) based in Singapore.

He has a management degree from Wharton and sees himself as a crusader for labour reforms in India. Since its inception in 2002, TeamLease has placed more than half a million people in temporary and permanent jobs.

Manish also serves on various state and central government committees on education, employment and employability and is a columnist for Indian Express. He is an alumnus of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Shriram College Delhi and Mayo ‎College, Ajmer.

Dr. Sudhir Jain

Dr. Sudhir Jain is an active academic and a passionate academic administrator. He has been on the faculty of IIT Kanpur (IITK) since 1984 from where he is currently on leave to the new Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) in Ahmedabad to shoulder the responsibilities of its Director.

His work has had tremendous impact on earthquake engineering practice and education in India. He was instrumental in development of several important seismic codes in India, and has trained a huge number of professional engineers and college teachers in earthquake engineering through his highly successful continuing education programmes. He set up the National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) at IITK and developed the National Programme on Earthquake Engineering Education (NPEEE), supported by the Government of India. Dr. Jain has been consultant for major projects, such as bridges, petrochemical pipelines and concrete dams and has published more than 150 scholarly papers. His research interests include study of damaging earthquakes, reinforced concrete buildings, bridges, and seismic codes.

As the Founder Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Prof. Jain has experimented with numerous ideas in curriculum, student affairs, faculty recruitment and faculty management. The Institute under his leadership has successfully created a number of initiatives to inculcate and promote excellence by the faculty and students. With his innovative approach and energetic leadership, the new Institute has emerged as an extremely vibrant place for teaching, learning and research.

Dr. Jain holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Roorkee, and Masters and Doctoral degrees from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering in 2000, and is currently its President. He also served on the Board of Directors of the World Seismic Safety Initiative from 2002 to 2009. He was elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2003, and was conferred Life Membership by the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) in 2013.

Dr. Omkar Nath Mohanty

Governor, Orissa and Chancellor of Universities, Shri Rameshwar Thakur, has appointed Professor, Omkar Nath Mohanty as the new Vice-Chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

Prof. Mohanty, who is presently working as the Tata Research Professor at IIT, Kharagpur has been a scholar of international reputation with high expertise in Large Projects Management and management of Quality Systems. After completing his M.Tech in Physical Metallurgy, Professor Mohanty did his doctoral work in Material Engineering from University Karlsruhe, Germany and the course in General management from CEDEP, France. His erudite scholarship and meritorious performance in elevated positions like Chief, R&D and Scientific services of TATA Steel, Scientist G. (Director Scientist) at NML, Jamshedpur, Member, International Consortium on Ultra-Light Steel Auto Body and Consultant, UNIDO, Vienna and Harare etc. earned him high decorations like National Metallurgist Day Award of Government of India in 1989, Material Society of India Award, 1995, Distinguished Engineers’ Award, Institute of Engineers, 1998 etc.

Besides more than a hundred research publications to his credit, Prof. Mohanty has developed as many as 17 patents in areas pertaining to Materials Development and Professing.

Prof. Pankaj Jalote

Prof. Pankaj Jalote is the Director of IIIT-Delhi (Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi). Earlier, he has been a Chair Professor at IIT Delhi. Earlier he was a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, where he was also the Head of the CSE Department from 1998 to 2002. From 85-89, he was an Assistant Professor at University of Maryland at college Park. From 1996 to 1998, he was Vice President at Infosys Technologies Ltd., a large Bangalore-based software house, and from 2003 to 2004, was a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, USA.

He has a B.Tech. from IIT Kanpur, MS from Pennsylvania State University, and Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. He is the author of four books including the highly acclaimed CMM in Practice, which has been translated in Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc., and the bestselling text book An Integrated Approach to Software Engineering. His main area of interest is Software Engineering. He has served on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Intl. Journal on Empirical Software Engineering, and IEEE Trans. on Services Computing.

He is a Fellow of the IEEE and INAE.

Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan

Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan is Director and Professor of Strategic Management at the Indian Institute of Management Indore, India.

From 1996 to 2013, Professor Krishnan was a member of the faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), India.

Professor Krishnan was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Advanced Study of India, University of Pennsylvania (Fall 2008), and at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (2011-12). He held the Jamuna Raghavan Chair in Entrepreneurship at IIMB from 2007-10.

Professor Krishnan’s main areas of interest are strategy and innovation. He was listed among the Thinkers50 India most influential thinkers in management from India (2013) and jointly received the special Thinkers50 India Innovation award (2013). Earlier, he received the Dewang Mehta Award for Best Teacher in Strategic Management in 2010.

Professor Krishnan’s recent book, 8 Steps to Innovation: Going from Jugaad to Excellence (co-authored with Vinay Dabholkar, and published by Harper Collins in March 2013), outlines a systematic path for organizations to build innovation capabilities. This book has been chosen as the Best Book of 2013-14 by the Indian Society for Training and Development

Professor Krishnan is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Stanford University and IIM Ahmedabad.

Dr.Shashank Chaturvedi

Dr. Shashank Chaturvedi is the third Director of IPR. Prior to taking charge as the Director of IPR, Dr. Chaturvedi was heading the CAD (V), BARC Facilities at Visakhapatnam. Having completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering (1st rank) in 1985 from IIT Delhi, he obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University in the year 1989-90 in the area of Plasma Science & Technology Programme conducted jointly by PPPL and Princeton University.

He joined IPR in November 1989 and was involved in R&D activities which included Tokamak modelling, modelling for pulsed power systems, shock waves, pulsed electromagnetics, radiation hydrodynamics, plasma stealth, EMP simulators, development of HPC facilities etc. In July 2006, he was transferred to BARC and further, to the Visakhapatnam unit of BARC in 2009, where he was instrumental in setting up the Facility for Electromagnetic Systems.

Some of the projects he handled at BARC were ; Modelling of shock waves, modelling & experiments on high-velocity impact & penetration, theoretical generation of materials data (equation of state, radiation opacity, electrical resistivity) under extreme conditions of density, temperature and strain rate, modelling of high power microwave sources, Software development for Speech, Image & Video analytics, Development of High performance computing facilities.

Some of the awards/honors that were conferred on Dr. Chaturvedi are: Institute Silver Medal at IIT Delhi (1985), Homi Bhabha Science & Technology Award of DAE (2005), Group Achievement award of DAE and Elected as Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in 2013.

Dr. Renu Swarup

A PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr. Renu Swarup completed her Post-Doctoral at The John Innes Centre, Norwich UK, under Commonwealth Scholarship and returned to India to take up the assignment of a Science Manager in the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 1989. She has been responsible for project development, granting and management in the area of Bioresource Development, Energy Biosciences, Bioprospecting, Plant Biotechnology, Tissue Culture and allied areas. She currently is the Adviser-in-Charge of the National Bioresource Development Board.

Dr. Renu Swarup also holds charge of Managing Director, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a Public Sector Company incorporated by the Government of India to nurture and promote innovation research in the Biotech Enterprise with special focus on Start-ups and SMEs. She was responsible for getting the new organization created and getting it operational. BIRAC successfully runs a large number of funding schemes for Industry Innovation, ranging from the Ignition Grant to Proof of Concept funding, validation and product development. The main focus of the organization is on enabling and supporting the Biotech Innovation Ecosystem.

Dr. Renu Swarup has also been closely involved in Programmes and activities related to Women and Science. She was responsible for getting implemented the DBT Scheme on Biotechnology Career Advancement for Women Scientists - BioCARe. She was also a member of the Task Force on Women in Science constituted by the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister.

Prof. Yogesh Singh

Prof. Yogesh Singh has been the Vice-Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda from July 2011 to July 2014. He was also reappointed as Vice-Chancellor for the second term of three years. The engagement as Vice Chancellor of one of the leading residential Universities in the country with more than 35000 Students, 1200 Teachers and 1500 non-teaching staff, brought immense satisfaction, respect and honour.

He is a member of the General Council of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) since March, 2012. He is also an independent Director of Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Government of Gujarat Undertakings) since May, 2013 and March, 2015 respectively. Prof. Singh has also worked as Chairman, Central Regional Committee, and All India Council for Technical Education, Bhopal (covering states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Gujarat) from December 2011 to May 2014. He has served as Dean, University School of Information Technology, University School of Engineering & Technology (2001-2006), Controller of Examinations (2006-2011), Director Student's Welfare (2006-2009), University Proctor (2001-2006) at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. He has also been the member of various Search Committees for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors.

Prof. Furqan Qamar

Prof. Furqan Qamar was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajasthan at Jaipur before assuming charge as the first Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh on 20th January 2010. He relinquished the post of First Vice-Chancellor on 25th June 2014 and joined Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi as its Secretary General. Dr. Qamar also served as Adviser (Education) in Planning Commission, Government of India.

Dr Qamar did his Ph.D. (1989) from the University of Lucknow on "Financial Management in Universities in India" and completed his Masters (1981) from the Canning College of the University of Lucknow in first Division and first Position in the University. He obtained his Bachelor degree (1979) from the Lucknow Christian Degree College of the University of Lucknow in first Division and first position in the college and fourth position in the University. He stood first in High School and Intermediate examinations of UP Board. Born in 1960 in the village Bahariabad of the district Ghazipur (UP), he had his early education in the village primary school and the rest his schooling in government aided schools and higher studies in public institutions at Lucknow.

Beginning his career as a Teaching Assistant in the Lucknow Christian Degree College (1981-1982) and later as Junior/Research Fellow (1982-84) at the University of Lucknow, Dr. Qamar was appointed as Lecturer in Commerce in the Department of Economics of Jamia Millia Islamia in 1984, where he rose to the position of Professor & founder Director of the Centre for Management Studies. Professor Qamar did the Advanced Management Programme (AMP 2005) at the Clare College, Cambridge and held the position of Professor in the Abu Dhabi campus of the Southeaster University and also at Al Bayan University during 1995-98. He has delivered lectures at National College of Science & Technology (now Al Dhoffar University) at Salala in Oman and also at the University of Applied Sciences, Erfurt, Germany.

With keen research interest in public policy in higher education, Professor Qamar has been actively engaged in research and has published in journals of repute on such themes as educational planning and administration, financing of education, cost savings and resource use efficiency in education and quality and excellence in higher education. Prof. Qamar has chaired and been members of a large number of committees constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), University Grants Commission (UGC), and Government of Delhi.

Dr. Brian Stoner

Dr. Brian Stoner, PhD, an expert in materials and electronic technologies, directs research activities related to biomedical materials and devices, vacuum microelectronics, and energy technologies. He is also leading a project for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to reinvent the toilet, developing a waste treatment system for use in developing nations that converts human waste into burnable fuel, stored energy and disinfected, non-potable water through a new biomass conversion unit.

Dr. Stoner also manages research programs for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Army Research Office, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Homeland Security. He holds 23 US patents related to novel microelectronic materials and systems, and has authored or co-authored two book chapters and more than 150 publications.

He also is an adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University.

Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya

Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya graduated from Jadavpur University, Kolkata with a Bachelor’s degree (1981), MS (1985) from University of Cincinnati, USA and PhD from Texas A&M University (1991), USA - all in Mechanical Engineering specializing in thermal sciences. After a post-doctoral research stint at Texas A&M, he joined the faculty of IIT Kharagpur in 1991 where he was Dean (Students’ Affairs) during 2009-2012 and has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering since 2003, Professor (HAG) since 2009. He also held faculty position at University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand during 1998-2000.

He served as the Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University, Kolkata during August 2012–October 2013 and as Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur during 2013-2016. Currently he is the Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani for its four campuses in Pilani, Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad.

Prof Bhattacharyya is a Member of the Research Council of CSIR-CGCRI, the General Council & Executive Board of ISM, Dhanbad and the Civil & Mechanical Engineering Project Advisory Committee (PAC) of SERB, DST.

Dr Bhattacharyya has been on the Editorial Boards of International Journal of Power and Energy Systems and Journal of Nano Energy and Power Research. He is an Associate Editor of the international journal Alternative Energy and was on the Editorial Board of Energy Conversion and Management during 2007-2013. He was a member of the Committee on Fast track scheme for young scientists, DST during 2007 –2012. His research interests include heat transfer enhancement, thermodynamic optimization, energy engineering, natural refrigerant based transcritical heating-cooling systems, and natural circulation loops. A recipient of ASHRAE Best Paper Award, Dr Bhattacharyya has published about 110 research articles in indexed international journals and over 110 articles in international conference proceedings; he is a co-author of the celebrated Heat Transfer text with J P Holman.

He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), National Academy of Science, India (NASI) and WB Academy of Science & Technology.

He is known as an adored teacher among the students of IIT Kharagpur and was the first recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award of Indian National Academy of Engineering in its inaugural year in 2013.

Mr. Myles F. Elledge

Mr. Myles Elledge is an international development expert with more than 25 years of experience in public policy analysis and strategic planning. He has worked in the US and in 26 developing countries on issues of economic and social development as well as environmental health.

Mr. Elledge has experience leading interdisciplinary studies and strategic program evaluations to improve public sector management and access to basic services, with such clients as the US Agency for International Development, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, and Japanese foreign aid agencies.

Mr. Elledge is also working on innovative technology development initiatives, leading public policy and user adoption applied research for water, sanitation, and household cookstove applications.

Prof. Ranjith Dissanayake

Head & Professor of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Prof. Dissanayake was a Fulbright Scholar in 2008 Columbia University, USA and Endeavour Fellow in 2008 Monash University Australia, JASSO Research Fellowship Ehime University, Japan in 2007.

He was awarded Young Scientist Award 2007 for Excellence in Scientific Research by National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka and Overseas Prize for the paper published in Institution of Civil Engineers, London, UK, 2007 titled “Lessons learnt from tsunami damage in Sri Lanka”. He has published over 140 papers. He was awarded Australia Alumni Excellence Award 2012.

He has chaired FIVE international conferences on Mitigation of the Risk of Natural Hazards (ICMRNR) of IIIRR in 2007, Sustainable Built Environment (ICSBE) in 2010, Structural Engineering, Construction and Management (ICSECM) in2011, Sustainable Built Environment (ICSBE 2012) in 2012, Structural Engineering and Construction Management (ICSECM2013), which were held in Sri Lanka. He is a foundering member of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) and presently Vice President.

He is Chairing of the International Conference on Sustainable Built Environment which will be held at Earl’s Regency Kandy Sri Lanka in 2014 (www.icsbe.org).

Mr. Karan Jani

Mr. Karan Jani is a doctoral researcher in Astrophysics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with B.S. in Physics, B.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics and a minor in Mathematics.

His current research is focused on searching for black-holes in the universe. He works on both the fronts: theory and observation. As a theorist, he simulate black-holes on supercomputers. As a member of the international LIGO Scientific Collaboration, he analyze observational data to detect massive black-holes. He was part of the team that detected the first black-holes and gravitational-waves on Sept 14, 2015.

Apart from astrophysics, he is actively involved in policy matters. As a Senator Nunn Fellow on National Security at the Georgia Tech's School of International Affairs, he works on the implications of space-science policy of developing nations and applications of big data sciences to intelligence community.

He also currently serve as the Elections Director and Vice-President at the Student Government Association at Georgia Tech. He has done Ph.D. M.S., Physics Georgia Institute of Technology (Aug 2012 to Current), B.S., Astronomy-Astrophysics Pennsylvania State University (Aug 2007 to May 2011) B.S., Physics Pennsylvania State University (Aug 2007 to May 2011).

Dr. Prabhat Ranjan

Dr. Prabhat Ranjan has taken over as Executive Director of TIFAC, effective from April 25, 2013. Dr Ranjan’s schooling was in Netarhat School, located near Ranchi, followed by graduation at IIT Kharagpur and masters from Delhi University. Subsequently he received his PhD degree from University of California, Berkeley based on his research related to nuclear fusion at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory during 1983-86. He was a recipient of National Science Talent Search award in 1976.

Immediately after his doctorate, he returned to India to participate in the Nuclear Fusion Program of the country that was nascent then. He continued his research at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta and Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar, making a major contribution to this area by bringing tokamaks (experimental nuclear fusion reactors) to international standards of operation. He was project leader of Aditya Tokamak and SST-1 Tokamak Operation and Control Group till 2002.

From 2002 to 2013, he served as Professor at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar. During this period he worked on many real life problems including societal issues. In particular, his work in the development of ‘Environment Control System’ based on body part movement, voice and brainwaves has helped improved quality of life of many persons with disability. He is passionate about application of embedded systems and sensor network technology to the areas of wildlife research, planetary exploration and healthcare.

His work has won him many accolades including HP Innovate 2009 award, NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Award 2012 and Bihar Gaurav Samman 2012.
