HOLISTIC HEALTHCARE: Good health and well-being for All

Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, a biennial event conceptualised in 2003 under the visionary leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India (then the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Gujarat); has today evolved into one of the most reputed global forums for business networking, knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships for inclusive socioeconomic development.

The 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is scheduled on 10 -12 January 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat and will be inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. The central theme of the Summit is: 'From Aatmanirbhar Gujarat to Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. The Summit will host flagship events on key national initiatives as well as emerging global topics and will be preceded by several sectoral PreSummit events.

A Pre-Summit on ‘Holistic Healthcare: Good Health and Well-Being for All', is being organized by the Health & Family Welfare Department on Friday, 7 January 2022, at The Leela, Gandhinagar. The event shall be focusing on the following areas: Medical & Wellness Tourism, Telemedicine & Health Technologies and Mainstreaming AYUSH. Tentative schedule is appended below.

Plenary Session: Medical & Wellness Tourism

Medical tourism is one of the rapidly emerging sectors in India not only because of its costeffectiveness but also because of superb and world-class medical facilities offered to international patients. Over the years, India has grown to become a top-notch destination for medical value travel and has been ranked 10th in Medical Tourism Index (MTI) for 2020-21 out of 46 destinations of the world by Medical Tourism Association. India has also become a favoured destination for Yoga and Wellness with its focus on traditional therapies through AYUSH.

Gujarat is reckoned as a Medical & Wellness tourism (MWT) hub because it scores high over a range of determinants viz. skilled doctors, state of art equipment, good healthcare infrastructure, low cost, tourist destinations, ease of travel, etc. The state is dotted with big, well equipped and accredited health facilities, wellness centres and has excellent connectivity.

This session aims to bring various stakeholders of the health and wellness tourism sector to deliberate on the current scenario, trend, future prospects for MWT. It will include sharing of experiential learning by global leaders in medical tourism, countries whose citizens travel internationally for medical care, Indian healthcare leaders of medical tourism, prominent wellness centres, tourism and commerce industries perspectives as well as government’s vision regarding MWT. Panel discussion will further provide insights on policies, collaborations and support for MWT promotion.

Plenary Session: Telemedicine & Health Technologies

The uses and application of technology in the healthcare industry are boundless. Technology is being implemented in everything from hospital administrative processes to diagnostics, therapy and surgery in order to improve accessibility, availability, efficiency of the system and services. COVID-19 pandemic led to an exponential increase in use of telemedicine at different levels. The Government of India has launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission for leveraging IT & associated technologies to support the health system and strengthen the accessibility and equity of health services, including continuum of care.

Gujarat is highly committed to ensure equitable access to quality services and has leveraged the use of technology in bridging the gaps and strengthening the services. The use of technology-enabled e-Sanjeevani for integrated telemedicine solutions across all health and wellness centres is one of key interventions in the state. The state has initiated teleECG project across its Primary Health Centres to ensure timely diagnosis and access to critical cardiac care services to avert premature mortality due to non-communicable diseases. Moreover, the state has initiated its Tele-ICU project in 10 district and sub-district hospitals, to strengthen critical care and ensure its availability to remotest areas of the state.

This session aims to bring various stakeholders of healthcare technologies to deliberate on the current scenario, trend, future prospects for application of technology in healthcare. It will include sharing of experiential learning by global leaders in healthcare technology and research, Indian leaders of tele health services, perspectives and experiences from leading health technology companies, application of AI – robotics – innovations in healthcare. Panel discussion will further provide insights on ecosystem requirement, collaborations and support for promotion of healthcare technologies.
